What this furnace repair involves
An ignitor lights the burners. A flame sensor tells the control board the flame is actually there. When either one fails, the furnace locks out on purpose, because running gas with no proven flame is dangerous. We pull the burner assembly cover, read the control board fault code, and test the ignitor and sensor with meters rather than guessing. If the part is bad, we replace it with the correct one for your furnace model and confirm the burners light and hold through a full cycle.
What we check and what we install
We look at the ignitor for cracks or hot spots, measure resistance, and check the sensor for the carbon film that builds up over years of heating seasons. Sometimes the sensor only needs cleaning and a solid ground. We also check gas pressure at the valve, the pressure switch, the flame rod position, and the limit switches, because a dirty burner or a blocked flue will kill a new ignitor fast. Wiring and connectors get inspected too. Loose terminals cause the same short-cycling symptoms.
How we decide it is the right call
Fault codes and hard numbers decide it. A three-flash or four-flash lockout with a cold ignitor points one direction. A furnace that lights, burns for five to eight seconds, then drops out almost always points at the flame sensor. If the ignitor and sensor both test fine, we keep going and look at the board, the gas valve, or the venting instead of selling you a part you do not need. We tell you what failed, what it takes to fix it, and what we found.

Why does my furnace light and then shut off after a few seconds?
That pattern usually means the flame sensor is not proving the flame, often from carbon buildup or a weak ground. The control board shuts the gas valve as a safety step. It needs cleaning or replacement.
Can a flame sensor just be cleaned instead of replaced?
Often yes. A light film of carbon can be cleaned off and the sensor put back in service. If the rod is pitted, cracked, or reads weak current after cleaning, we replace it.
How long does an ignitor last?
Several heating seasons, sometimes many more. Hot surface ignitors are brittle and fail from heat cycling, dust, and short-cycling caused by a dirty filter or a restricted return. Keeping filters fresh helps them last.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill out the quote form. We ask what changed, when it started, and whether the outdoor unit is running. That tells us which parts and gauges to load on the truck before we leave.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
We check the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow, refrigerant pressures, and the condenser coil. Desert dust plugs coils and dying capacitors are common. You get the finding in plain words before we touch a part.
- Step 3
Repair and verify
We make the repair, then run the system and measure supply air temperature and amp draw so we know it is actually cooling or heating. We tell you what we saw and what to watch for next season.

Why homeowners call us
- We know rooftop unitsHalf the valley has a package unit on the roof, baking all summer. We are up there regularly, so we know how those cabinets fail, where the drain pans rust, and how heat and sun break down wiring and blower assemblies.
- Dust is the local enemyFine desert dust mats onto condenser coils and chokes airflow, and the system runs hot until something gives up. We check the coil on every call and tell you honestly whether cleaning will fix your cooling problem.
- July gets treated like JulyA dead condenser when it is 112 outside is not a routine call. We prioritise homes with no cooling, and we say clearly when we can be there instead of leaving you guessing all afternoon.
- Heating tooDesert nights get cold and furnaces sit unused for months. We do heater repair and furnace repair, including no-ignition problems, bad igniters, and blowers that hum without moving air. Same straight explanation, no upsell speech.
- All major brands, gas & electricIndependent service on Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, York and the rest.
- Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
