What a furnace tune-up involves
We start at the thermostat and work through the system in order. That means checking the call for heat, watching the ignition sequence, and listening to the blower under load. We pull the filter, inspect the blower wheel and cabinet for dust, and clean what needs cleaning. Then we take readings at the unit and compare them against what the system should be doing. You get a plain description of what we found and what, if anything, needs repair. No jargon, no guessing.
What we check and what we replace
On a typical visit we inspect the heat exchanger, burners, flame sensor, igniter, gas valve operation, safety switches, wiring connections, capacitor and blower motor. We check flue and venting for blockage or damage, confirm return and supply airflow, and verify vents are open through the house. Filters get replaced. Loose electrical connections get tightened. If a flame sensor is dirty or an igniter is on its way out, we tell you before it fails on a cold morning, not after.
How we decide a tune-up is the right call
If your furnace is heating but you want it checked before winter, a tune-up is the right job. If it is not heating at all, or it trips a breaker, or the blower runs without warm air, that is heating repair and we treat it that way. Rooftop package units in this region take a beating from dust and sun, so we look harder at cabinets, seals and venting up there. Older systems with repeated failures get an honest conversation about replacement instead.

How often should a furnace be tuned up?
Once a year is the usual answer, ideally in the fall before the first cold night. Systems in dusty areas or rooftop package units can benefit from being looked at more often, since dust loads up filters and coils fast.
Can a tune-up turn into a repair?
Sometimes. If we find a failed flame sensor, a weak capacitor or a cracked heat exchanger, we stop and explain what we found and what the furnace repair involves before doing any additional work.
Is there anything I can check myself first?
Yes. Check thermostat batteries and settings, look for a tripped breaker, change the filter, and confirm supply and return vents are open. Anything involving gas, refrigerant or high voltage should be left to us.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill out the quote form. We ask what changed, when it started, and whether the outdoor unit is running. That tells us which parts and gauges to load on the truck before we leave.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
We check the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow, refrigerant pressures, and the condenser coil. Desert dust plugs coils and dying capacitors are common. You get the finding in plain words before we touch a part.
- Step 3
Repair and verify
We make the repair, then run the system and measure supply air temperature and amp draw so we know it is actually cooling or heating. We tell you what we saw and what to watch for next season.

Why homeowners call us
- We know rooftop unitsHalf the valley has a package unit on the roof, baking all summer. We are up there regularly, so we know how those cabinets fail, where the drain pans rust, and how heat and sun break down wiring and blower assemblies.
- Dust is the local enemyFine desert dust mats onto condenser coils and chokes airflow, and the system runs hot until something gives up. We check the coil on every call and tell you honestly whether cleaning will fix your cooling problem.
- July gets treated like JulyA dead condenser when it is 112 outside is not a routine call. We prioritise homes with no cooling, and we say clearly when we can be there instead of leaving you guessing all afternoon.
- Heating tooDesert nights get cold and furnaces sit unused for months. We do heater repair and furnace repair, including no-ignition problems, bad igniters, and blowers that hum without moving air. Same straight explanation, no upsell speech.
- All major brands, gas & electricIndependent service on Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, York and the rest.
- Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
