Top-rated independent heating and cooling across southern Nevada and the desert Southwest

Zoning Controls

We install and repair zoning controls, the dampers, zone panels and thermostats that let one HVAC system hold different temperatures in different parts of your home. Homeowners across Nevada, Arizona, California and Utah call us when upstairs runs ten degrees hotter than downstairs, when a back bedroom never cools, or when a zone damper sticks and one area gets nothing. Call us and describe which rooms are off and by how much, and we will schedule a look at your ductwork and controls.

What the job involves

Zoning splits your duct system into separate areas, each with its own thermostat and a motorized damper inside the trunk or branch line. A zone panel reads the thermostats and tells the equipment and dampers what to do. On a typical install we map the duct layout, decide where dampers can physically go, run low-voltage wire to each thermostat, and set the panel so the system does not choke itself when only one small zone is calling for air.

What we check or install

We start with static pressure and airflow, because zoning a duct system that is already undersized just moves the problem around. Then we look at damper motors, end switches, the transformer feeding the panel, thermostat wiring and how the panel talks to a rooftop package unit or a split system. Repairs are often a failed damper motor or a burned-out zone board. New installs include dampers, panel, thermostats and a bypass or dump zone strategy that keeps coil airflow safe.

How we decide it is the right call

Zoning makes sense when the temperature spread between floors or wings is steady, the equipment is sized correctly, and the duct branches can be separated cleanly. If the real issue is a crushed return, missing insulation in a hot attic, or a dust-loaded coil starving airflow, we fix that first and the spread often shrinks on its own. We will tell you plainly if zoning would not help. Sometimes a second system or duct repair is the honest answer.

Zoning Controls — quick answers

Can zoning be added to my existing AC system?

Often yes, if the ductwork has separable branches and the equipment handles reduced airflow. We measure airflow and inspect the duct layout first, then tell you what dampers and controls the system can actually support.

Why does one zone blow no air at all?

Usually a stuck or failed damper motor, a tripped zone board, or a wiring fault at that thermostat. Check the thermostat batteries and settings, then call us so we can test the panel and damper.

Do I need a separate thermostat for every zone?

Yes. Each zone needs its own thermostat wired back to the zone panel, since that is how the panel knows which dampers to open and when to call for cooling or heating.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill out the quote form. We ask what changed, when it started, and whether the outdoor unit is running. That tells us which parts and gauges to load on the truck before we leave.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

We check the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow, refrigerant pressures, and the condenser coil. Desert dust plugs coils and dying capacitors are common. You get the finding in plain words before we touch a part.

  3. Step 3

    Repair and verify

We make the repair, then run the system and measure supply air temperature and amp draw so we know it is actually cooling or heating. We tell you what we saw and what to watch for next season.

Why homeowners call us

  • We know rooftop unitsHalf the valley has a package unit on the roof, baking all summer. We are up there regularly, so we know how those cabinets fail, where the drain pans rust, and how heat and sun break down wiring and blower assemblies.
  • Dust is the local enemyFine desert dust mats onto condenser coils and chokes airflow, and the system runs hot until something gives up. We check the coil on every call and tell you honestly whether cleaning will fix your cooling problem.
  • July gets treated like JulyA dead condenser when it is 112 outside is not a routine call. We prioritise homes with no cooling, and we say clearly when we can be there instead of leaving you guessing all afternoon.
  • Heating tooDesert nights get cold and furnaces sit unused for months. We do heater repair and furnace repair, including no-ignition problems, bad igniters, and blowers that hum without moving air. Same straight explanation, no upsell speech.

  • Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
