Top-rated independent heating and cooling across southern Nevada and the desert Southwest

AC Tune-Up

An AC tune-up is a scheduled service visit where we clean, test and adjust your cooling system before the heat arrives, and we do this work for homeowners across Arizona, California, Nevada and Utah. Most homes in the region need it once a year, ideally in spring, because desert dust packs into condenser coils and airflow drops long before the system quits. If your AC is running longer than it used to or the air feels weak, call us and we will schedule a tune-up.

What an AC tune-up actually involves

We start at the thermostat and follow the system through. That means washing the outdoor coil, checking the condensate drain, pulling and replacing the filter, and measuring the temperature split between return and supply air so we know what the system is really doing. On rooftop package units we also look at the cabinet, the panels and the blower compartment, since sun and wind open gaps that let dust straight in. Anything we find gets explained to you before we touch it.

What we check and what we clean

Electrical connections loosen with heat cycling, so we tighten and test them. We read amp draw on the compressor and fan motor, inspect the contactor and capacitor for pitting or swelling, and verify refrigerant performance by pressure and temperature rather than guesswork. Ductwork gets a look for disconnected boots and crushed flex. If a part is on its way out, we tell you now instead of during a July afternoon when the house is already at 90 degrees.

How we decide a tune-up is the right call

If the system still cools but works harder than it should, a tune-up is usually the right move. If it is short cycling, tripping the breaker, blowing warm air or icing over, that is air conditioning repair territory and we handle it as a repair visit instead. Before you call, you can check the thermostat batteries and settings, swap a dirty filter, clear weeds and gravel away from the outdoor unit, and confirm the supply vents are open.

AC Tune-Up — quick answers

How often should an AC tune-up happen in a desert climate?

Once a year, and spring is the best timing. Cooling seasons here are long and dusty, so coils and filters load up faster than in milder climates. Older systems sometimes benefit from a mid-season check too.

Will a tune-up fix a system that is already blowing warm air?

Probably not on its own. Warm air points to a specific fault, so we treat that as air conditioner repair, diagnose the cause, and give you the findings before any work. A tune-up is preventive, not a repair.

Does a tune-up cover the heating side as well?

No, that is a separate visit. Heating repair and heater maintenance involve different checks, including the burner area and safety controls. Many homeowners book cooling in spring and heating in fall.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill out the quote form. We ask what changed, when it started, and whether the outdoor unit is running. That tells us which parts and gauges to load on the truck before we leave.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

We check the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow, refrigerant pressures, and the condenser coil. Desert dust plugs coils and dying capacitors are common. You get the finding in plain words before we touch a part.

  3. Step 3

    Repair and verify

We make the repair, then run the system and measure supply air temperature and amp draw so we know it is actually cooling or heating. We tell you what we saw and what to watch for next season.

Why homeowners call us

  • We know rooftop unitsHalf the valley has a package unit on the roof, baking all summer. We are up there regularly, so we know how those cabinets fail, where the drain pans rust, and how heat and sun break down wiring and blower assemblies.
  • Dust is the local enemyFine desert dust mats onto condenser coils and chokes airflow, and the system runs hot until something gives up. We check the coil on every call and tell you honestly whether cleaning will fix your cooling problem.
  • July gets treated like JulyA dead condenser when it is 112 outside is not a routine call. We prioritise homes with no cooling, and we say clearly when we can be there instead of leaving you guessing all afternoon.
  • Heating tooDesert nights get cold and furnaces sit unused for months. We do heater repair and furnace repair, including no-ignition problems, bad igniters, and blowers that hum without moving air. Same straight explanation, no upsell speech.

  • Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
