The furnace symptoms we hear most
- The heat blows cold air Failed ignition, flame sensor dropout or a furnace locking out on a safety switch
- It clicks a few times and quits Cracked hot surface ignitor or a dirty flame sensor causing lockout after three tries
- The furnace runs then shuts off early Short cycling from restricted airflow, a plugged filter or an overheating limit switch
- There is a loud bang when the heat starts Delayed ignition from a dirty burner or gas valve trouble, worth a same-day look
- The thermostat says heat but nothing happens Thermostat wiring or batteries, a tripped breaker, a blown low voltage fuse or a dead control board
Whether you call it furnace repair, heating repair or heater repair, the work is identical and so is the quote you approve first.
Safe things to check first
Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.
- 1Check the thermostat: fresh batteries, set to Heat, and the target temperature above the room temperature.
- 2Look at the electrical panel for a tripped breaker on the furnace or air handler circuit and reset it once.
- 3Pull the filter and hold it up to a light. If you cannot see through it, replace it with the same size.
- 4Walk the house and make sure supply and return vents are open and not blocked by furniture or rugs.

My furnace will not turn on at all. What now?
Start with the thermostat batteries and settings, then check for a tripped breaker and a filter so loaded it has shut the system down on a limit. If those look fine, the fault is usually the ignitor, control board or a safety switch, and we should come out.
I smell gas near the furnace. What should I do?
Leave the building right away, take everyone with you, and do not touch switches. From outside, call 911 or your gas utility and let them clear the home. Once they say it is safe, call us and we will inspect the furnace and gas train.
Why does my furnace keep shutting off after a few minutes?
That pattern is usually short cycling on a high limit. A clogged filter, closed vents or a failing blower motor traps heat in the cabinet, so the furnace protects itself. Change the filter, open the vents, and if it repeats we will measure airflow.
What is a flame sensor and why does it fail?
The flame sensor proves the burner actually lit. Over years it builds a film that blocks the tiny current it reads, so the furnace lights, then shuts the gas off seconds later. Cleaning or replacing it is a common, straightforward heating repair.
Do you repair electric furnaces too?
Yes. Electric furnaces and air handlers fail at the heat strips, sequencers, limit switches and blower motors. Symptoms look similar to gas, weak heat or nothing at all, but the diagnosis is different. Tell us what you have when you call and we will bring parts.
Should I repair or replace an older furnace?
We tell you what we find and let you decide. One failed ignitor on an otherwise sound furnace is worth repairing. Repeated failures, a cracked heat exchanger or a unit that no longer keeps up in cold weather point toward replacement instead.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill out the quote form. We ask what changed, when it started, and whether the outdoor unit is running. That tells us which parts and gauges to load on the truck before we leave.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
We check the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow, refrigerant pressures, and the condenser coil. Desert dust plugs coils and dying capacitors are common. You get the finding in plain words before we touch a part.
- Step 3
Repair and verify
We make the repair, then run the system and measure supply air temperature and amp draw so we know it is actually cooling or heating. We tell you what we saw and what to watch for next season.

Why homeowners call us
- We know rooftop unitsHalf the valley has a package unit on the roof, baking all summer. We are up there regularly, so we know how those cabinets fail, where the drain pans rust, and how heat and sun break down wiring and blower assemblies.
- Dust is the local enemyFine desert dust mats onto condenser coils and chokes airflow, and the system runs hot until something gives up. We check the coil on every call and tell you honestly whether cleaning will fix your cooling problem.
- July gets treated like JulyA dead condenser when it is 112 outside is not a routine call. We prioritise homes with no cooling, and we say clearly when we can be there instead of leaving you guessing all afternoon.
- Heating tooDesert nights get cold and furnaces sit unused for months. We do heater repair and furnace repair, including no-ignition problems, bad igniters, and blowers that hum without moving air. Same straight explanation, no upsell speech.

- Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
